Born December 10, 1934 in the city of Tver region Bezhetsk. Father - Popov, Sergey (1915-1934). Mother - Popova, Alexandra Mikhailovna (1915-1948). Wife - Shalimova Isabella Pavlovna (1929g.rozhd.). Sons: Pavel Popov (1964g.rozhd.) Graduated from the Physics Faculty of Lomonosov Moscow State University, working in Belgium, Alexander Popov (1970g.rozhd.) Graduated from the Institute of Asia and Africa, working in World Economy.

In 1945, Victor Popov entered the Moscow Choral School, where his first teacher was an outstanding figure of choral art AV Sveshnikov. Immediately after the school Popov was admitted to the Moscow State Conservatory named after P. Tchaikovsky, from which he graduated in 1958 from the class choral conducting from the famous Russian conductor and educator AB Khazanova.

His professional activities - educational and creative - VS Popov began while still a student in 1955 as a teacher of children's music school. At the end of the conservatory worked choirmaster at the Children's Choir of the Academy of Art Education Institute of Education Sciences (1957-1964) and Song and Dance Ensemble of the Moscow City Palace of Pioneers (1964-1969). With these teams young conductor prepares a variety of programs, which include folk songs, Russian and foreign classics, songs and choruses of contemporary domestic composers

70-ies became fatal in the life of a musician. In 1970 VS. Popov creates Big Children's Choir of the Central Television and All-Union Radio (now Big Children's Choir of Russia Television and Radio Company Ostankino ") and simultaneously becomes the head of the Boys Choir of Moscow Choral School named Sveshnikov. With these two internationally recognized creative teams have been prepared by a variety of programs, which included choral miniatures and songs, cantatas and symphonies, operas and oratorios. Both the choir always performed in the cities of our country and abroad. Big Children's Choir has repeatedly participated and won in major international competitions held in Italy, Belgium, Holland, Hungary, Poland.

Intense performer's life, as before, is inseparable from the pedagogical work: from 1980 to 1993 VS. Popov leads the class of conducting at the Moscow State Conservatory in 1990 received the title of professor.

In 1991 VS. Popov founded the university - the Academy of Choral Art (on the basis of the Moscow Choral School named AV. Sveshnikov) and became its first rector, remaining up until 1997, as well as the artistic director and principal conductor of the choirs Academy. Among them is allocated Male Choir, created by Popov in 1989. With the choir boys Male Choir won two first prizes in international competition in Karlstein (Germany, 1992).

Henceforth concert activity Academy takes the unprecedented scale. For the first time in the history of music in the spring of 1997 in Moscow performed Mahler's Eighth Symphony with the Grand Symphony Orchestra under E. During the years of teaching in secondary and higher education institutions VS Popov prepared a lot of professionals currently working in various cities of the country and abroad.

VS. Popov is the author of numerous textbooks and manuals. They are prepared to print anthology, a large number of collections of choral art, made and published more than 200 treatments for various choral compositions written many articles and published the book "Russian folk song in the children's choir". As a respected scholar, he is regularly speaker at international seminars and symposia on choral performance.

VS Popov - People's Artist of the USSR (1990), People's Artist of the RSFSR (1983), Honored Artist of the RSFSR (1977), laureate of the Lenin Komsomol Award (1980), laureate of the Moscow City Hall in Literature and Art (1996). Awarded the Order of Friendship of Peoples (1994) and the reward of France - Commander of the Order of literature and art. Is an active member of the International Academy of Informatization.
