Born May 22, 1930 in Kiev. Father - Bogdanov Alexei Ye (1903-1958), Tver Karelia, a member of the Soviet-Finnish and the Great Patriotic War, a colonel, served in the Armed Forces 30 years. From 1931 to 1940, Vladimir lived in military camps in locations father: in Stary Oskol, as well as near Khabarovsk and Blagoveshchensk. During the Soviet-Finnish War, my father was transferred to the army after the war as chief of the regiment continued to serve in the school near the town of Ulan Ude in Karelia. In 1949, VA Bogdanov graduated from the Suvorov military school and enrolled in the Kiev Infantry School.

In 1951, after graduating from college, Lieutenant VA Bogdanov was sent to the Group of Soviet Forces in Germany, where he served as commander of the platoon machine gunners and motorized rifle troops. In 1955 he married, in September 1956 a daughter

During major exercises during the service in Ashgabat, come in view of the leaders of District staff, who noticed in VA Bogdanova promising officer, and in 1967 he was appointed to the operational management of staff TurkVO. In 1971, the VA Bogdanov was sent to study at the General Staff Military Academy and graduated in 1973 and returned to a former senior officer of the operator with the rank of colonel.

Later he was appointed head of desk officers in the Transcaucasus and Turkestan military districts and military forces in the Middle East, the deputy chief of the Southern direction. In 1977 he was appointed head of this trend, well-mastered it and had no comment on the service.

April 27, 1978 VA Bogdanov received information about the wiretapping of Afghanistan. Head of HOAs, Colonel-General SF Akhromeyev called Bogdanov and said that Kabul is an uprising led by the PDPA. On the night of February 15, 1989, Lieutenant-General Vladimir Bogdanov penultimate plane flew from Kabul to Tashkent. After arriving in Moscow, he led a group of officers for the preparation of work "The experience of the Limited Contingent of Soviet Forces for military assistance to the Government of the Republic of Afghanistan". The group was created as staffing (but temporary) line of military and scientific management of the General Staff.
