Biography Bretschneider Heinrich V.
(1833 - 1901), higher education received at the medical faculty of Tartu University (1853 - 58). After 2 years of work in foreign hospitals ranked by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and in March 1862. was appointed physician at the Russian mission in Tehran. In 1866, Mr.. transferred to Beijing, where he stayed until 1884. Accustomed to the Chinese language, he devoted himself to the study, on the one hand, history and geography, on the other - Botany China. Numerous works Brettschneider in the other areas, mainly in English, enjoy an excellent reputation. The largest of them on the history and geography: "Notes on the Mediaeval Georg. and Hist. on Central and Western Asia "(1875);" Archeol. and hist. Researches on Peking and its Envir. "(1875; awarded the Paris Academy Award From. Julien); "Mediaeval Researches from Eastern Asiatic sources" (2 volumes, 1888, 2 ed. - 1910); on botany: "Botanicos Sinicum: (Shanghai, 1881 - 95);" History of european botanical Discoveries in China "(2 volumes, L., 1898, and awarded.
