Biography Voyeikov Alexander
nephew Alexander Fedorovich Voeikova, was born in 1842, Mr.. Moscow. In his younger years (1856 - 1858) traveled extensively in Western Europe and Asiatic Turkey (of Syria and Palestine). In 1860, Mr.. entered the Physics and Mathematics of St. Petersburg University, . but next year we went abroad, . where he listened to courses at universities in Berlin, . Heidelberg and GцІttingen, the University awarded the final degree of Doctor of Philosophy (1865),
. Consisting of 1866. member of the Imperial Russian Geographical Society, Voeiykov began to take a close interest in his work and on behalf of the society went to the 1869 - 1870 he. abroad to familiarize themselves with the meteorological stations in Vienna, Milan, Paris, Brussels and London. In 1870, Mr.. Voyeikov (second time, the first time in 1868) toured the eastern Caucasus (Dagestan, Baku and Lankaran). Voyeikov also took an active part in the work of the Meteorological Commission of the Imperial Russian Geographical Society, as its Secretary, processed observations of rain and thunderstorms network of the commission for 1871. The next 5 years are devoted Voeikov a number of long journeys, in 1872. He traveled Galicia, Bukovina, Romania, Hungary and Transylvania, where, incidentally, was researching the chernozem. In February 1873,. Voyeikov was in New York until October of this year made a long trip to the United States and Canada (P. Louis, New Orleans, through Texas, Colorado, Minezotu and lake areas to Quebec). Returning to Washington, Voeiykov until the spring of next year, at the suggestion of the Secretary Smithsonian Institution, supplement made by the Institute an extensive publication entitled "Winds of the Globe" and wrote the text. Next year Voyeikov traveled to Yucatan, Mexico and South America, where he visited Lima, Lake Titicaca, Chile, Rio de Janeiro. Returning to New York, Voeiykov finished its work there for the book "Winds of the Globe" (1875) and then, after returning briefly to Russia, made a new journey in Hindostan, the island of Java and Japan. Following years Voyeikov dedicated to the development of materials of their travels and meteorological work. In 1882, Mr.. Voyeikov enrolled assistant professor at St. Petersburg University, Department of Physical Geography, in 1885 he was appointed extraordinary, in 1887, Mr.. full professor in the same department. Voyeikov is (since 1883) Chairman of the Meteorological Commission of the Imperial Russian Geographical Society and was elected an honorary member of many Russian and foreign scientific societies. In 1892 - 1904 he. was editor of the department of geography 82-volume "Encyclopedic Dictionary of the Brockhaus and Efron.
