Biography Al-Bitrudzhi
(Abu Ishaq al-Nur al-Din al-Bitrudzhi Ishbili) (mind. in 1185, or about. 1204) According to some data, B. - Native Pedroche, north of Cordova, according to other sources, was born in Morocco. Student famous scholar Ibn Tufail (who also studied at the famous philosopher Ibn Rushd), worked in Seville. In Western Europe, was known by the Latinized name Alpetragius (Alpetragius). Astrological of B. translated into European languages (in particular, the famous astrologer, translator Michael cattle), and became popular. The most famous of the works of B. - "The Book of Astronomy" (creepy book on astronomy). In this work B. criticized the Ptolemaic theory of planetary motion (cm. Ptolemy), and contrasted it to the principles of "Physics" of Aristotle, outlined a new theory of motion of celestial bodies and the doctrine of the "driving force".
In honor of B. named lunar crater Alpetragius.
