In the same year he was appointed to the chair of the Jewish language in the academy, which held until 1835. The results of the study Pavsky Jewish language were: 1) made up of "grammar" and "reader" of the Jewish language, . long been in Russia, the only guides for the Jewish language, . and "Judeo-Russian Dictionary, . remains unpublished, . 2) study on the book of Psalms "(Master's thesis), . which Pavsky first demonstrated the view (now common), . that not all the psalms composed by David, . and different persons at different times, . and most of the book of Psalms translated into Russian, . published by Bible Society,
. Entered into this society in 1814 with the rank of Director, P. from 1820 was managing editor of the society published the translation of books Sv. Scriptures of the Old Testament (book history, ending the first book of Kings); he P. translated into Russian the Gospel of Matthew. He belongs to the same version of the translation of the New Testament books Sv. writings, published by the society. Zaveduya class Jewish language in the St. Petersburg Theological Academy, P. in the course of more than 20 years in translation and philological research on the text of the tutorial and the prophetic books of the Old Testament. This translation carefully recorded by students, without his knowledge and editorial was nalitografirovan them and sold all over Russia. Subsequently, P. about this transfer was tried Synod. Regardless of the student records, Pavsky made for himself translate didactic and prophetic books, which are of particular importance it attaches to the translation of books of Job, and Prof.. Ezekiel (these have not all survived, and only some of them are now - in the autograph P. - In the library of St. Petersburg Theological Academy). Since 1815 Pavsky was a priest of Saint-Petersburg, Kazan Cathedral, and later - Archpriest Andrew's Cathedral on Vasilevsky Island. In 1818 he was appointed a member of the St. Petersburg Committee of the spiritual censorship (until 1827), and in 1819 - 1820 years participated in the revision of the statute of censorship. In 1819 he was appointed to the chair of theology at St. Petersburg University. On revocation Nikitenko in his readings, was something quite peculiar, peculiar to him alone, the importance and almost childlike kindness, strength and simplicity, combined with the depth of views and an extraordinary wealth of knowledge ". Since 1821 P. becomes one of the main staff of Christian Readings ". In addition to original articles, he wrote the majority of translations from the works of St.. Fathers and editors of all the other translations of the Church Fathers, published in this journal before 1839. He also printed his article in the "Library for Reading", in "Annals of faculties, issuing. Galich and Plaksin, and in Izvestia II Branch of the Academy of Sciences ". In 1826, P. appointed scribes to Tsarevich Alexander Nikolayevich and Grand Duchess and made an extensive note on the method and subjects of upcoming classes, . component for the first time serious, . scientifically based work on the methodology of God's Law in Russia,
. Later he made two manuals entitled: "The Christian doctrine in a concise system" and "Font Style ecclesiastical history, printed in a small number of copies. In the manuscript P. there still exist relating to the terms of these classes: "Biblical antiquity for understanding Sv. Scriptures "(published in 1884 in the" family evenings "); course of the Law of God, taught Tsarevich (a part of it published in XXX t. "Compendium of the Imperial Historical Society" and "Spiritual Herald" of 1896), in addition, P. mentions more about the "Summary of Christian doctrine" and "Life of Jesus Christ, told the details of manner", he had compiled at this time. Weight lessons his Cesarevitch are still in manuscript. "The Christian doctrine in a concise system" and "Font Style ecclesiastical history, printed by the Imperial command, caused great dissatisfaction in some parts of the clergy. Metropolitan Filaret of Moscow, presented a note to the Emperor, which pointed to the undeniable, in his opinion, the signs and nepravoveriya nepravoslaviya zakonouchitelya Heir contained in these books. P. been granted the right to give his explanation, which he proved incorrect statements Filaret. Emperor agreed with explanations P., and the case was ready for a peaceful end in the last. But the aged Metropolitan of St. Petersburg. Seraphim, appearing to the Emperor, fell before him on his knees and on behalf of the whole church, asked to stop "tempting". P. was certified. The entire royal family said goodbye to him with tears (Note by Metropolitan Filaret and explanations P. published in the "Readings of the Moscow Society of History" for 1870). Zhukovsky, director of all training heir, as rated zakonouchitelstvo P.: "your religion - a friend of education, this is what must live in the soul of the Emperor". Leaving the service in the court, P. give all learned lessons, . 1841 - 42 years, . 3 tons, 2-e, . 4 v., . 1850), . had delivered to him in 1844 full Demidov Prize from the Academy of Sciences (in academics, he was, . however, . elected only in 1858),
. Work that was received in the most favorable reviews in the press. One is the Academy ", I.I. Davydov (preface to the grammar of Lomonosov Moscow State University, the publication of the Academy of Sciences) - that his work "is a new era in the history of our grammar, East (13th award-winning Demidov, p. 50) called it the most complete and most learned representative of the Russian grammar, a rich treasure of knowledge and a variety of t. d. P. really had a great knowledge for his time and was familiar not only with the Semitic languages (the Jewish, . Chaldean, . Arabic), . knowledge of which in this case was not necessary, . but also with the Slavic languages, . partly Sanskrit and Zend, . Old High German and t,
. d. He was already known "Comparative Grammar" Bopp, German - Grimm and "Institutiones" DobrovskцҐ. But P. was self-taught, his knowledge lacked a systematic, school and the method. Hence, in his "Observations", close to the true observations that established the innate common sense and a clear mind, PA, we find not a little curious and quite amateurish (even for that time) theories and explanations. These are: the view of the identity of Old Russian and Old Slavic languages, the unfortunate theory "groan", which built all the "Observations", and t. d. Detailed scientific analysis of some of the views of the P. gave academician Betling in his "Beitrage zur russisch. Grammatik "(" Melanges russes tires du bulletin histor.-philolog. etc. ", t. II, No.. I, 1851), discovered the whole of their failure and not scientific. Another analysis of the views of the P. on the Russian pronunciation cm. by Lundell: "Etudes sur la prononciation Russe" (h. I, Stockholm, 1890; cm. also note Uppsala University "Upsala Universitets Arsskrift", 1891). In 1880 the manuscripts P. found more extensive essay "Materials for an explanation of Russian root words through strange" (two large volumes, the manuscript is in the Academy of Sciences), represents an attempt etymological dictionary of Russian language. Judging, however, the etymology of PP occurring in his "Observations", science has lost little of what this work it remained unpublished. In 1841, peace scholar worker was shocked denunciation (Agathangel Solovyov) Synod at its nepravoslavie, . noticed in the above-mentioned his translation of the Old Testament, . lithographed students, . being put to a general question about his way of thinking,
. The Synod appointed a commission to study on this subject, which comprises Gideon, Archbishop of Poltava, Metropolitan Filaret of Moscow and the official Synodal Karasevsky. Since the transfer was made on the great recordings of students without the knowledge of P. and without its editorial, it is in it for the mistakes he was not responsible. Nevertheless, he had great difficulty to prove his loyalty to the church invariable and unconditional loyalty to its symbolic teachings. The case ended with what was taken from him a written confession of his faith with his oath confirming that he teaches about everything according to the precise meaning of the symbolic books of the Orthodox Church. With accession to the throne of Emperor Alexander II, he was again numbered among the staff of the clergy of the cathedral and the court granted awards and a good pension. More cm. NI.
