Biography Brahmagupta
(Brahmagupta) (598 - ca. 660) From Ujjain in central India, the son of Dzhishnugupty. He was director of the observatory at Ujjain. The author of two well-known mathematical and astronomiko-astrological works. The first of them - "Brahmasphuta Siddhanta" ( "Pure Theory of Brahma", 628), in which B. explores issues of astronomy, astrology, numerology and mathematics. Much of the work is devoted to eclipses of the sun and the moon, compounds of the planets, phases of the moon, the calculation of the planets in the horoscope. That his work was translated into Arabic and thus came to Egypt and thence to Europe. The second work B. - Khandakhadyaka "(finished 15.03.655), the fundamental work on astronomy.
