Biography Manuel Jos? Arce (Arce Manuel Jos)
(ca. 1786-1847)
Born in San Salvador in 1786 or 1787, education in Guatemala. In 1811, for involvement in the attempted independence of El Salvador had been subjected to imprisonment. In 1814 participated in the conspiracy and was sentenced to five years in prison. When in 1821 The Central American countries gained independence, the Philippines refused to enter into the empire of Iturbide. Arce, appointed commander of the national army, defeated in two battles, the Guatemalan army, but was defeated by the Mexicans, and fled to the U.S.. In 1824, arrived in Guatemala, suppressed the rebellion in Nicaragua and in 1825 was elected the first president of the Federal Republic of Central America. As ruler quickly lost credibility and in 1929 gave power to the liberals, led by General Francisco Mosaranom. Arce had fled to Mexico. Twice, in 1831 and 1833, with the support of the Conservatives tried unsuccessfully to return to power. In 1840 uchastvovaval in the presidential elections in El Salvador, but lost. Revolt against President Juan Guzman, after the defeat of the rebels withdrew into exile. At the end of life returned to. Died Arce in San Salvador on September 14, 1847.
