Biography Vladimirtsov Boris Yakovlevich
(1884-1931)
Born July 8, 1884 in Kaluga. In 1909 he graduated from the Faculty of Oriental Languages Petersburg University, trained in France by A. Meillet. From 1918 he taught at the Petrograd (Leningrad) University, a professor from 1921. Since 1929, Academician. He participated in expeditions in Mongolia. Died in Vladimirtsov Siverskaya (near Leningrad) 17 August 1931.
One of the first Vladimirtsov used in their research methods of contemporary linguistics, both in the field of comparative-historical research, and in the description of modern languages. His main linguistic work Comparative Grammar of the Mongolian written language and dialect khalkhaskogo (1929, 2 ed. 1989) includes the genetic classification of Mongolian languages and dialects, a sketch of their history and description of the phonetics and writing. Translated and commented on the Mongolian monuments, including the heroic epic. Vladimirtsov - author of works on the history of the Mongolian Peoples: Genghis Khan (1922) The social system of the Mongols. Mongolian nomadic feudalism (1934).
