Biography Jan van Goyen (Goyen Jan van)
(1596-1656) Born January 13, 1596 in Leiden. After traveling to France during the year studied with Esaias van de Velde in Haarlem. The earliest work close to van Goyen, van de Velde. They dominate green tones, in a carefully assembled landscape placed small figures in bright clothes. Since the late 1620-ies in the paintings of van Goyen dominates the landscape with a sharp decrease in the size of the figures. In 1634 he settled in The Hague, where he soon began to write in an almost monochrome brownish scale and sketchy manner. River landscapes have become almost the main theme of his paintings. Later works show a return of the master to the color, but now blshaya part of the canvas is given the image of the sky. In The Hague, van Goyen interested in theory construction and may have worked as an architect. Died Goyen at The Hague on 27 April 1656.
