Biography PACI George (Goldie George Dashwood Taubman)
(1846-1925) Born in Douglas, May 20, 1846. He was educated at the Royal Military Academy at Woolwich, he served in engineering units. Many traveled to Africa, first visited Nigeria in 1877. He founded the Central African trading company. In 1879 he formed the United African Company. In 1886 the company has made provision of the royal charter, which made her Royal Nigerian company and granted broad powers to manage most of Nigeria. Activity of the company met with opposition from the Germanic and French agents. In 1900 the British government revoked the license and to establish direct control over the property of the company, dividing the territory into two protectorates - North and South Nigeria. In 1887, Goldie was raised to the dignity of knighthood. Goldie died in London on August 22, 1925.
