KID Thomas (Kyd Thomas)

(1558-1594)
Born in London, baptized Nov. 6, 1558, from 1565 he studied at the Merchant-Teylorz-Cheek. Further his biography restored only fragmentary. After completing his studies, he apparently walked in the footsteps of his father, who served as a notary. In 1580-ies began to translate the play and write their own. In 1587-1593 was in the service of a nobleman, in 1591, rented an apartment on shares with K. Marlow. Two years later acquaintance with Marlowe turned to the Kid in serious trouble. On suspicion of anti-state activities, which then add the charge of atheism, Kid was arrested and tortured. Soon he was released, but, having lost the state and broken in spirit, then spent less than a year.
Most of the works Kida lost or uncontrollable attributions. Among the preserved: translation from T. Tasso Philosophy landlord (The Householder's Philosophy, . 1588), . pamphlet Murder of John Bruena (The Murder of John Brewen, . 1592) and the tragedy of Cornelia (Cornelia, . 1594) - Translation of French imitation of Seneca, . written by R. . The only drama unquestionably belongs Kid - The Spanish Tragedy (The Spanish Tragedy). Its production in 1585 had an enormous influence on the Elizabethan Theater. Perhaps the Spanish tragedy was known and the young Shakespeare, some features of the plot, as well as the madness of the hero the play Kid recalls Hamlet. There is reason to attribute authorship of the tragedy Kid Soliman and Persis (Soliman and Perseda) and popular in its time, but then lost the play of Hamlet, which became the basis of Shakespeare's masterpiece. Although his fame Kid obliged only one play, his contribution to the Elizabethan drama is immeasurable. Having overcome the artificiality inherent in imitator of Seneca drama of that time, Kid enriched dramatic conflict, has made organic plot construction, and expanded the repertoire of theatrical techniques to express the tragic. Drama Kid distinguish prominence characters, entertainment, sharpened the rhetoric.
