Biography Kim Dae-jung (Kim Dae Jung)
(p. 1925) (another version of transcription - Kim Dae-jung) He was born in Mokpo December 3, 1925 to a peasant family. As a young man engaged in trade, worked in the newspaper. He began his political activities in 1950. He was elected to the National Assembly in 1961. In 1971, opposed the Park Chung-hee in the presidential election as the candidate of the Democratic Party of Korea. During the campaign, got in a car accident. In 1973, was kidnapped by South Korean intelligence from a hotel in Tokyo, accused of having links with North Korean radicals. In 1980 he was accused of sedition and sentenced to death by hanging. The sentence was commuted to life imprisonment in 1981, and in 1982, Kim was released and deported to the U.S.. In 1987, Kim was allowed to participate in the first direct presidential election, but he lost to Roh Tae-woo. In the elections of 1992, Kim gave Kim Ensamu, leader of the Democratic Liberal Party. In 1995 Kim founded a new party - the National Congress for New Politics, and December 18, 1997 was elected president. In his inauguration speech in February 1998, Kim called for cooperation of all political forces to overcome the financial crisis, combating corruption and radical political and economic reforms, closer ties with North Korea. All these initiatives have been called the policy 'sunshine'. In June 2000 in Pyongyang, met Kim Dae-jung and Kim Jong, . during which the agreement was signed on the world, . as well as a number of other humanitarian issues, . in particular the resolution of family reunification, . have long been divided by the border between two states, .
