Jean-Paul Marat (Marat Jean-Paul)

He was born in Boudry, near Neuchц?tel (Switzerland) May 24, 1743. Came to France to study medicine. In 1765 went to England, where he acquired fame as a physician. Published an essay on the human soul (Essay on the Human Soul, 1771), philosophical essays about the man (A Philosophical Essay on Man, 1773) and the chains of slavery (The Chains of Slavery, 1774).
In 1777 Marat returned to Paris, became the personal physician of the Comte d'Artois (later Charles X), brother of Louis XVI. The heavy nature of Marat, apparently, has caused difficulties in the performance of duties in the service, and in 1783 he was dismissed from service.

Following the convening of the States-General Marat plunged into politics, published the newspaper "L'Ami du peuple '(' L'Ami du peuple '). Marat fierce critic of the new regime gave rise to legal action, and he was forced into hiding until the fall of the monarchy on Aug. 10, 1792. Thank staunch champion secured his place in the Convent, where he became the leader of the Montagnards (Radical Party). As chairman of the Jacobin Club had signed an appeal to the Government to protect France from Dumouriez and his supporters in the Convention, which was considered 'incitement' and an attempt to harm the security of the State. Marat was arrested and taken to the Revolutionary Tribunal, April 24, 1793 but returned to its place in the Convent. He was assassinated by Charlotte Corday in Paris on July 13, 1793.
