Biography Massenet, Jules Emile Frederic
(1842-1912) Born May 12, 1842 in Monte. He was awarded several awards from the Paris Conservatory, as well as the Rome Prize, and in 1878-1896 was professor of composition at the Conservatory. In 1878 he was elected to the Academy of Fine Arts. The most famous operas of Massenet - Manon (Manon, 1884), Werther (Werther, 1892), Thais (Thas, 1894) and Juggler of Our Lady (Le Jongleur de Notre Dame, 1902). Among the works of other genres - several speakers, suite for orchestra, piano pieces, songs, and Concerto for Piano and Orchestra. Massenet died in Paris on Aug. 13, 1912. (17.14 Kb)
