Biography Morgan, Giovanni Battista
(1682-1771) Born February 25, 1682 in Forli. At 16 he entered the University of Bologna. He studied at the famous anatomist and surgeon A. Valsalva. In 1701 received the degree of Doctor of Philosophy and Doctor of Medicine. He was a professor of practical medicine Bologna (since 1706) and Padua (from 1711) universities. He was famous for research in the field of anatomy, which can be found in the anatomical notes (Adveraria anatomica omnia, 1719). Performed the autopsy, described the numerous pathologies, anomalies, tumors of various organs. Sought not only to explain the basis of pathological processes, but also give information about the pathogenesis, symptoms and diagnosis of the disease. The fruit of his many years of research work began on the location and causes of disease, identified by an anatomist (De sedibus et causis morborum per anatomiam indigatis, 1761), which sets out the basis of pathological anatomy as a science. Morgagni first described many anatomical structures, named after his name. Died Morgagni in Padua 5 December 1771.
