Biography ORIO Vincent (Auriol Vincent)
(1884-1966)
Born August 25, 1884 in Revel (Haute-Garonne). He studied at the University of Toulouse, where he received a doctorate in law. In his student years became a member of the Socialist Party, in 1909 the publisher of the newspaper 'The Socialist South'. In 1914 he was elected to parliament deputy from g.Myure. He became mayor of Muret and General Counsel, Haute-Garonne. In 1919-1936 Auriol - Secretary of the Socialist faction in the Chamber of Deputies, L. Blum temporarily replaced as leader of the French socialists. Minister of Finance in 1936-1937. In 1924 took part in the London Conference on Reparations, in 1925 was a member of the delegation J. Cayo, which discussed the return of war debts. Auriol was one of 80 representatives of the Chamber of Deputies, voted against the provision of Marshal Pц?tain full power after the defeat of France in 1940. Was imprisoned in a 1940-1943. October 17, 1943 left France and joined General de Gaulle. Became a member of the Consultative Assembly and the Chairman of the Committee on Internal Affairs of the Government in exile. In November 1944 he returned to Paris. In October 1945 he was elected chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee in the Constituent Assembly. In November 1945 - Minister without portfolio in the provisional government of France. In 1946 he represented France at the General Assembly and the UN Security Council. In December 1946, Auriol became chairman of the National Assembly after the first election under the new Constitution of France. January 16, 1947 was elected president of the French Republic for seven years. In 1959, after more than 50-year tenure in the Socialist Party, Auriol came from its ranks in opposing the leader of the Socialists G. Mollet.
Auriol died in Paris on January 1, 1966.
