Biography Anatoly SMELYANSKIY Mironovich
(p. 1942)
Born December 13, 1942 in Gorky. After an eight-year went to work at the plant planer. In 1966, after Gorky Pedagogical Institute, was zavlitom Gorki Theater for Young Spectators, began to publish in the local and the union of the press as theater critic and theater historian. In 1975 he was invited to Moscow's Central Red Army Theater, to head the literary section. Then he began studies at the Moscow Institute of Art. In 1980 Oleg Efremov invited him to the Moscow Art Theater. In 1987 became vice-rector Smelyanskii Studio School for Science, headed the research sector, occupied by the publication of the founders of the Moscow Art Theater Heritage. Smelyanskii - editor in chief of the nine Stanislavsky's collected works (1984-1999), chief editor of two volumes Moscow Art Theater. 100 years (1998) Since 1997, Deputy Artistic Director of the Chekhov Moscow Art Theater. Since 1998 - director of publishing 'Moscow Art Theater'. In 2000 he was elected Rector of the Moscow Art Theater School. Conducts active teaching career in Russia and America (since 1997 Professor of the Higher Institute for Theater Education at Harvard University).
Smelyanskii - the author of numerous critical and historical works on the theater 20 in. Book Our interlocutors (Moscow, 1981) is devoted to productions of Russian classics on the stage of the 1970. The book is Mikhail Bulgakov in Moscow Art Theater (Moscow, 1986) - one of the first in Russia to study drama by Mikhail Bulgakov. Its expanded edition was published in 1989; in 1994 came the English version of the book Is Comrad Bulgakov dead? (London, Methuen, New York, Routledge). Smelyanskii (jointly with O. Egoshina) - author of the draft of the book series 'Conversations curtain century', which included interviews with major figures of 20 in the theater. The first collection of director's theater. From B to E. Discussions curtain Century (Moscow, 1999). In 1999 the English and Russian languages, his book The Given Circumstances. From the life of the Russian theater of the second half of the twentieth century (English version - The Russian Theatre after Stalin, Cambridge University Press). Between 1998 and created a TV series of gears 'Secrets of the portrait lobby', dedicated to the figures of the Art Theater. Cmelyansky - one of the most famous and influential critics in today's Theater Studies, author of nearly 300 articles on the modern theater.
