Biography FONSECA Manuel Deodoro
(1827-1892) Born August 5, 1827 in Alagoas. He graduated from military school in Rio de Janeiro in 1847. The army quickly promoted, in 1856 was promoted to captain and was appointed chief of the military school. During the war with Paraguay (1864-1870) was wounded and received several regular titles. In 1885 he became a field marshal. He was vice-president of the State of Rio Grande do Sul, led a coup. November 15, 1889 the rebels seized government buildings in Rio de Janeiro, and proclaimed a republic. A few days later Emperor Pedro II left Brazil. February 25, 1891 was proclaimed by President Fonseca. 3 November of the same year, he dissolved the Congress, and on November 23 he was forced to resign. Fonseca died in Rio de Janeiro April 23, 1892.
