Biography Maria Edgeworth (Edgeworth Maria)
Born Jan. 1, 1767 in Black Baurtone (Oxfordshire, England), elder daughter of RL Edgeworth and his first wife. Father was married four times, the family was twenty-two children. In Edzhuortstaune (County Longford, Ireland), my father taught his daughter to the household and estate management, encourage and develop her literary skills. Her first book, Letters to a lover of belles-lettres (Letters to Literary Ladies), published in 1795, and stories for children Parent Assistant (Parents' Assistant) - in 1796. Released in 1798 the book Practical Education (Practical Education), coauthored with his father, brought fame Edgeworth.
First novel Edgeworth Rekrent Castle (Castle Rackrent, 1800) opened a long series of novels and children's books. In the castle Rekrent presented a realistic picture of the Irish Topper. The novel is written juicy figurative language, on behalf of the old wise servant, he is sparkling humor, full of passion and fervor.
After his father's death in 1817 Edgeworth finished his memoirs (Memoirs), wrote several sequels to his children's books, but has not published anything - only in 1834, saw the light of her last novel, Helen (Helen). She often came to England. In 1820-1821 traveled to France and Switzerland, in 1823 traveled to Scotland, staying at the W. Scott in Abbotsford.
Amusing, exciting novels of Edgeworth, on the life of the Irish estate and its inhabitants, became a new word in the literature. In his books on the secular British society, she created the image of sensible heroine - in contrast to the image of the heroine's romantic. Died in Edgeworth Edzhuortstaune May 22, 1849.
