Nickname, real name - Odysseas Alepudelis (1911-1996) Born November 2, 1911 in Heraklion (Crete). The son of soap-boiler. Alias was from the initial letters of the Greek words meaning: Greece, hope, freedom, beauty. He studied law at Athens University. He started his nature as a singer, but after the Second World War in his outlook was accomplished fracture. Elytis - Nobel Prize for Literature 1979. The most famous product of the poet - a series of mythological poems It Is (Axion Esti, 1959). Among the significant books of poetry Elytis - Orientation (1936) and Maria Nephele (1978), affirming the sanctity of the created world, despite its horrendous flaws. Elytis died March 18, 1996.
