Hockney was born July 9, 1937 in Bradford (Yorkshire), was educated at Bradford College of Art and the Royal College of Art (1959-1960). Exhibitions of his works, held in the United States (1964 and 1965), London (1970) and other European countries (1970 and 1974), Hockney created a reputation as the most popular contemporary British artist.
Many of his works Hockney created as a sign of reverence for the masters of the past. Hockney has published two volumes of memoirs: David Hockney (David Hockney by David Hockney, 1977) and this way I see it (That's the Way I See It, 1993).
