Childhood years spent in Smolensk in 1898. Graduated 4-th St. Petersburg (Larin) Gymnasium. In 1898-1902 he. - The historical-philological faculty of St. Petersburg University. At the end was left at the University. He has lectured on general and Russian literature at the Transfiguration of the new school, general education courses A.S. Chernyaev to DR. schools. Research interests focused on Russian literature, primarily on the literature of Pushkin's era. Compiled anthology "Poets of Pushkin's pores" (Moscow, 1919). Participated in the preparation of the collected works of academic EA Baratynsky, did a great job of collecting and processing its archives. As a poet in. formed under constant influence of Symbolist poetics and poetic traditions of 1-st half of the nineteenth century trying to reconcile these different poetic systems. After 1917, continued teaching activities, published istochnikovedcheskie historical and literary works, translated poets of the Renaissance ( "Poets of the Renaissance" .- Moscow, 1948), A. Mickiewicz, the Georgian poets.
