In the Army from 1939. In 1939 graduated from Borisoglebsk Air Force Pilot School. He served in line units the Air Force.
In Private World War II from June 1941 to the post of commander of the 69 Fighter Regiment (Southern Front). On the outskirts of Odessa, June 22, 1941 shot down a Nazi bomber. Also participated in a ground attack enemy columns. When ground attack airfields in Baden and Selzach 21 fighter aircraft were destroyed and several enemy bombers, out of commission half crews.
