. Born November 8, 1921 in the village Kurganka now Shirokovskoe region Dnipropetrovsk region in a peasant family. Ukrainetz. Member of the CPSU since 1944. Graduated high school 7. He worked as an accountant at a factory in the city of Krivoy Rog. In the Red Army from April 1940. In 1941 he graduated from the 1-S Kachin Red Banner Military Aviation Pilot School in the AF Myasnikov.
Member of the Great Patriotic War from June 1941. He fought at Bryansk, Stalingrad, Southern Front. Commander of the 9 th Guards Fighter Aviation Regiment (6 th Guards Fighter Air Division, 8 th Air Army, the Southern Front) Komsomolets Guard Lieutenant Pogorelov ms. spring of 1943 on the outskirts of Rostov-on-Don in a dogfight down two Nazi bomber rammed a third. Landed by parachute. For this he was awarded the Order of the Red Banner.
Captain Pogorelov ms. to January 1945, made 218 sorties, shot down in aerial combat in person 18 and in the Group 5 enemy planes.
