At the end of September 1943 the troops of the Steppe dandy went to the Dnieper River in the area from Kremenchug to Dnepropetrovsk and the move forced him to many sites. Along with the advance units of infantry troops in the area Derievki crossed to the right bank and artillery regiment of the Guards, which served Ufimtsev. True, . emplacements batteries were placed so far on the east bank of the Dnieper, . but the observation posts of commanders of batteries and battalions, . as well as the best vantage point the commander of an artillery regiment, Major Orlova were already on the bridgehead.,

. Opponent hit a springboard defenders trying to throw them in the Dnieper
. Gunners fought back the Nazis, but the radio worked extremely unstable and does not provide fire control. Attempt to put across the phone line was unsuccessful. The enemy shelled the crossing of heavy artillery and mortar fire, and the wire was torn to pieces even before the line went into operation.

We reported to the regimental commander. Major Orlov confirmed his order: a telephone line over the Dnieper to lay in whatever the cost!

This time, the commander of the military order was instructed senior telephonist Ufimtseva. With two companions he "prosmolil" cable ozokerite, in the neighboring village scored a basket nuts, sinkers from fishing nets and other metal objects. Having laid the telephones and coils of cable in utluyu boat, communications have begun to lay the line. The boat was moving day at the sight of the enemy. Above the heads of brave telephonists Bullets whistled, . near bursting shells and mines, . boat tossed from side to side, . flooding, . but Ufimtsev, . seemed, . no attention to the enemy fire, . at risk and with great diligence and perseverance, continued his soldier's case,
. After every 20 - 25 meters, he was tied to a wire sinker and dropped the cable to the bottom of the river. After two hours of hard work two-wire cable was laid across the Dnieper. From the coast to the observation point of wire stretched on a specially dug a shallow pit in the ground. Relationship between the left and right bank of the river was set. This was the first in the whole division telephone line laid across the Dnieper. She has worked smoothly. Within a few days to use it to manage the units and subdivisions, not only the artillery commander, Colonel Noah I.N. Moshlyak, and Army Commander Lieutenant-General MN. Sharokhin, and many other captains. But as soon as the telephone was the sound of artillery command "Fire!", All other negotiations immediately cease. Everybody knew: Battery Guardsmen should bring down their shots at the enemy counterattacks, to support our infantry. With excellent acting "line Ufimtseva and effective fire support for infantry units our gunners repelled all enemy attacks and expanded the bridgehead, was of great operational importance.
