And van Ivanovich Shatalin, lieutenant, commander of the squadron of the 103rd Attack Air Regiment of the Red Grodno. Born July 13, 1922 in a. Letyazhevke Arkadak district of Saratov region. Russian.. He graduated from high school and military aviation school. In the Soviet Army, he served from 1940 to 1960.

During the Great Patriotic War - from April 1943 to May 1945 - fought in the North Caucasus, 4 th Ukrainian and 2-Byelorussian fronts. He participated in the liberation of the Northern Caucasus, the Crimea, Byelorussia, Poland, routed the enemy on its own territory. For military distinction awarded three Orders of the Red Banner (1944, . 1945), . Order of Alexander Nevsky (1945), . World War 2 nd degree (1944), . Red Star (1943), . medals "For the Defense of the Caucasus", . "For the victory over Germany in World War II 1941 - 1945 gg." and other medals.,

H a front Shatalin rose from private pilot to the squadron commander. Of the total number of sorties 134 times led groups of 4 - 12 aircraft. He flew in all weather conditions. The greatest skill displayed in the following sorties.

June 8, 1943, consisting of four IL-2 Shatalin flew to attack the artillery positions and bunkers on the front line defense in the village of Kiev in Taman. When approaching the target group was met with heavy fire anti-aircraft artillery and machine guns, and then attacked by fighter. Shatalin bravely joined the battle with the enemy "Messerschmitt", and drove them away, applying protivozenitny maneuver aiming dropped bombs on the enemy bunker.
