Egeria or Eteria; Egeria (Aetheria), IV in. n. e., a noble woman, who was born, probably in Galicia (Spain) or in Gaul, author of a work trip, or pilgrimage to holy places (Itinerarium or Pelegrinatio ad loca sancta). It is a travel diary for Egypt and the Holy Land, Mesopotamia, Asia Minor and Constantinople, written for the nuns back home. E. visits places connected with the events of the Old Testament, with the Lives of the Desert, graves and monuments of martyrs. It also describes the life and presents a list of the Christian community in Jerusalem. Product E. is an invaluable source for the study of religious life at the end of IV. and that it is written in colloquial Latin, provides rich material for studying the evolution of Latin. The stated date of travel E. are 381-384 years. In the only manuscript of the product E. lacks the initial pages and some pages in the middle.
