Biography EMILIO Macer (Macer, Aemilius)
Macer, Aemilius; Macer, Aemilius, of Verona, died. 16 g. BC. e., Roman poet. Friends with Virgil and Tibull. Ovid in mournful elegies recalls that a young man he listened M., reciting their works, and admired him. M. wrote didactic poems on the model of the Alexandrian poets. Plots the poem Ornitogoniya were turning them into birds and divination by bird's eye. In Feriake M. wrote about the bites of poisonous snakes and animals, known to us using the product of the Greek poet Nikandra of Colophon, and the poem on the grass - on medicinal plants. It is possible that the product M. use of Virgil, with great probability - Lucan. M. was also a source of information for Pliny the Elder, who it refers. In the Middle Ages M. considered a great connoisseur of the secrets of nature. From the above pieces M. kept isolated fragments.
