Born July 10, 1914. G. Moscow. Graduated from the Moscow Geological College (1932) and MGRI (1940).

Candidate of Geological and Mineralogical Sciences (1947), Doctor of Geological and Mineralogical Sciences (1957). Professor (1961). Professor of Engineering Geology, Geological Faculty (1961).

Member of the Executive Committee of the International Association of Engineers geologists. Member of the Scientific Council of RAS on Engineering Geology and Hydrogeology, . Chairman of the section of engineering protection of territories and buildings and member of the Presidium of the USSR State Construction Committee of the NTS (1975-1990), . Chairman of the section of research and member of the presidium Tech Council Ministry of Energy, . Winner of USSR State Prize (1952) for participation in the drafting of a two-volume guide to engineering and geological studies for the construction of hydroelectric. Awarded the title "Honored Scientist of Russia (1993), Distinguished Professor of Moscow State University (1995).

Research interests: the study of geological patterns of formation of slopes in order to assess their stability and prediction of landslides and avalanches. To solve this problem using many methods, gave a theoretical justification for the prospects of their application, attaches special importance to the study of the geological history of the formation and the stress state of the slopes. Another focus of his research activities is to develop methods of engineering-geological research areas of large reservoirs, assessment and prediction of processing banks. The third area - the development of theoretical foundations and techniques of engineering-geological investigations in connection with industrial-civil, underground and hydraulic engineering. Develops theoretical foundations techniques of engineering-geological studies to support integrated (regional, specialized and detailed) engineering protection schemes lands and structures from dangerous geological processes. Hauchnaya activity is closely related to major economic problems in t.ch. construction of hydropower stations and reservoirs on pp. Volga, Kama, the Yenisei, Haryne, Inguri Dniester; protection of cities and industrial sites of landslides and mudflows in the Crimea, the Caucasus, the Trans-Baikal and Central Asia.

In 1951, Mr.. initiated the idea of specialization in engineering geology at the Geological Faculty. During my time at MSU series of lectures Engineering Geology, Engineering geological mapping, engineering geodynamics, field research methods, techniques of complex geological studies. He has lectured on the problems of engineering geology in Yugoslavia, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Bulgaria, France and Egypt.
