Research interests: systematics, comparative morphology, ecogenesis tsefalopod; microstructural study of the skeletal tissues of the fossil and modern mollusks; biostratigraphy of conodonts. Developed a framework for the environmental classification tsefalopod on design features of their shells. Together with students and colleagues created a zonal scheme of partition of the medium, The Upper sediments to CONODONTS. Expert and research on biomineralization, has studied paleontological and evolutionary aspects of biomineralization. In honor of JS Barskova called the genus of Cambrian molluscs - Barskovia, types of conodonts Laterignathus barskovi, Gnathodus barskovi, Lower Cretaceous brachiopods and belemnites Craniscus barskovi Conobelus barskovi. Topic of Ph.D. thesis: The Late Silurian conodonts and Kazakhstan and Central Asia. Subject doctoral dissertation: morphogenesis, ecogenesis and microstructure of the skeleton of Paleozoic cephalopods.
