Born on February 12 (24 NS) in the village Lebyazhe Semipalatinsk province, in the family of rural teachers. Gorky took an active part in the fate of the young writer. In the first issue of "Red Novi", the first "thick" of the Soviet journal, created with the assistance of Gorky's novel was published by Ivanov "Partisans" (1921) and in the fifth - the novel "Armored Train 14-69" (1922). After the autobiographical novel "The Adventures of fakir" (1934 - 35), the writer reiterates his appeal to the historico-revolutionary theme. In 1939, publishes the novel "Parkhomenko.
During World War II Ivanov performs with his articles, wrote stories on the military and historical themes ( "On the field of Borodino, 1943). In 1947 came the memories Ivanov, "Encounters with Maxim Gorky," over which the writer worked for almost a quarter century.
In the postwar years, Ivanov made many appearances as a publicist for Peace and Culture. In 1953 published a play, "Lomonosov", in 1960 - the novel "We are going to India". However, part of the work created by him and did not see the light in the life of the author ( "Sisyphus, the son of Aeolus," "Wandering Jew", the novel "Vulcan" was published posthumously).
