Louis Jean Lumiö?re was born October 5, 1864 in the town of Besancon, in the family of the artist, enjoys photography.

He graduated from technical school and worked at the factory plates that belonged to his father.

In 1894, Louis Jean Lumiere acquainted with moving images of Thomas Edison, and began to address the problem of light projection "moving pictures".

Together with his brother Louis-Jean has developed a device which they called "cinema". The main inventor was Louis Jean Lumiere, Auguste and his brother helped him, basically, money.

In addition to the technical invention of the Lumiere brothers, the initiative belongs to the regular production of films.

So, on Dec. 28, 1895 at the Grand Cafö? on the Boulevard de Kapyusin (Paris) hosted the first film show, which began with a display area Belkur in Lyon. The day was sold just 35 tickets, worth one franc, but then the brothers Lumiere lined up huge queue wishing to see the movie.

Creating his films, Jean-Louis and Auguste Lumiere invented many techniques filming. For example, the method used for shooting the brothers travel through the canal on a gondola in Venice, now called trevelingom.

Manufacturer Louis Jean Lumiere sent to different countries specially trained operators who produced, shot and demonstration films.

But the brothers Lumiö?re were unable to compete with other photographers, so Louis Lumiere left the cinema, removing the film "The Passion of the Jesus" in 1898. He continued to engage in industrial production of films and film, movie cameras. Some time later, Jean-Louis sold his patents, although studies in cinema has not stopped - trying to make the color and surround cinema.

In 1919, Louis Lumiere was elected a member of the French Academy of Sciences.
In 1946 he gave the French Cinematheque about 1800 tapes, shot them with his brother.
June 6, 1948 Louis Jean Lumiere died in the town of Bandol.

In France, established an award named Lumiere, awarded for documentary films each year.
