In 1956-1957 there were published three books of humorous stories, at once attracted attention to it, but the real glory and acceptance brought the novel "I, my grandmother, Iliko and Hilarion", released in 1960. . All of these novels and many stories passed dozens of publications. He - the author of poems, poems, children's products, publications and travel records.

Novels "I, my grandmother, Iliko and Hilarion" and "I see the sun" is largely autobiographical.

The action takes place in villages, where the war years of the men were only old. Living with his grandmother Zuriko orphan boy grows under the care of an elderly neighbor. Both of them - with a sharp tongue, who love to make fun of or even play each other, full of kindness, wisdom of life and always ready to help the afflicted. Bitter necessity, . fear for the lives of departed loved ones at the front create a dramatic conflict in the novel "I see the sun", . but even here important human kindness, . that never degenerates into a mawkish sentimentality, it shows, . as elsewhere in his works, . in action and often hidden behind a deliberately mundane or humorous phrase,
. In the novel "Solar Night" hero hardly feels the way for a rapprochement with former 12-year-old mother of links. And here everyday worldly situation turns for a hero, . young Temur, . dramatic moral conflict: whether to forgive is the cause of misfortune of his family scoundrel, . Does it help, . killed by a stroke? And, . sitting at the head of human, . whom he saved the life of, . hero feels, . as his soul is gradually freed from hate and pity fills a moral suicide, . double snitch, . ruined his family, and gave himself Temur, . when he confided to him the secret of his friend,

The next novel, "Do not worry, Mom" is a continuation of the previous works. Here, the same youth world with its joys and hardships, but the plot is complicated by a single line - military service. It is characteristic that the author for writing this novel, by special permission had served in the frontier of. At the forefront again - human relations. Men's friendships, the tragedy of losing a comrade, the pain of unfulfilled love - all this is depicted in a typical Dumbadze lyrical style, which as it seeks to hide the sharp dramatic experiences of the characters.

The novel "White Flags", on the plot differs from other works on its internal structure coincides with the basic ideas of his work. In the center of attention - the fate of 'no-fault blame' man convicted of murder for failing. Can Zaza Nakashidze find the truth, to avoid the fate of the sacrificed scapegoat '- this uncertainty creates an atmosphere of tension in the novel. All cellmates Zaza - people with the law, they are all guilty of various, more or less serious crimes, but even here the writer sees them as people who own weakness, or the vicissitudes of fate pushed the straight path. In this small volume novel raised many issues of modern society, showing people from its bottom, the question not only their relationship with society, but also with himself, his human 'I'.

The last novel "The Law of Eternity" also expresses the idea of the struggle between good and evil. Calmly look for evil, according to the hero of the novel lying in a hospital, gravely ill Bachan, can only people with artificial heart. Referring to his attending physician, he said: 'While we are alive, we must shake hands, to help our souls to become immortal ...'. How "White Flags", . and "The Law of Eternity" reflect a specific historical era in Georgia, as well, . like his other works, . they always have a specific place and time of, . characters often speak in the language, . which zapadnogruzinskie (Guria) dialect and gay youth slang (do not rolling in foul language) referred to within the linguistic record,

Works do not leave the impression of genre paintings; throughout the whole texture of the art fabric is subject to the basic idea works and contributes to its embodiment. Lyricism and dramatic, inimitable humor, comedy described many situations - all together is an expression of the author's thinking about the opposition of good and evil, the human right to happiness and love. Sun as a symbol of the higher good of humanity often found in many works. Of particular note is that the heroes of Nodar Dumbadze - people of many nationalities: Russian, Ukrainians, Armenians, Greeks, Gypsies. Tragic story "Helados". Boy Greek, . leave to their historic homeland, . the last minute not find the strength to part with all, . with which he grew, . - With his native city of Sukhumi and friends, rushed on board sailing ship, . to go back, . he dies at sea,
. The tragedy, though in a veiled manner, typical of the story "Cucaracha". Policeman, spent their gangster nicknamed Murtala (ie. 'bastard, bastard'), later himself killed by his bullets. Overlooked by the writer and do not pass wordless creations of nature - wandering dog ( "Dog") and apple (Hazarula "). To him they are also part of the Universe, a permanent member of the universe.

Language and style are different concise and refined simplicity, rich vocabulary. Dialect vocabulary, which he knew thoroughly, gives the speech of heroes expressiveness and freshness that will reveal the characters.

Ills of life, the loss of many relatives, including young son, a serious illness could not crush the spirit of the writer.
