Ilham Aliyev

Place of birth, education. Born in Baku. In 1982 he graduated from Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO). Then he entered the graduate school MGIMO, in 1985 defended his dissertation and received the degree of candidate of historical sciences.


He is fluent in Azerbaijani, Russian, English, French and Turkish.


Career. 1985-1990,. - Teacher MGIMO.


1991-1994,. - Work in private business, led a number of industrial and commercial enterprises.


Of 1991-2003. - Vice-president, then first vice-president of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR). Actively participated in implementing the "oil strategy of Heydar Aliyev."


Twice, in 1995 and 2000., Elected to the Milli Majlis (Parliament) of the Azerbaijan Republic. 2001-2003,. - Head of delegation of Azerbaijani Parliament to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE). In January of 2003 is elected as Deputy Chairman and Bureau member.


August 4, 2003 after approval by Milli Majlis was appointed Prime Minister of Azerbaijan. In this regard, the Member of Parliament resigned.


15 October 2003, was elected President of the Azerbaijan Republic (took office Oct. 31). In the elections of I. Aliyev receives more than 76% of voters
