Pierre Boulez (Boulez Pierre)

An outstanding interpreter of music 20 in. and one of the most eloquent advocates of the new art.
Boulez was born May 26, 1925 in Montbrison (France). He studied mathematics and music in Saint-Etienne and Lyon, then became a student of Olivier Messiaen at the Paris Conservatory from 1946 to 1956, Boulez - music director of a troupe of Jean-Louis Barrault and Madeleine Renaud. With Barro he founded in 1953 TN. 'Concerts Marigny', later called 'musical horizons' ( 'Domaine Musical') - one of Europe's first avant-garde music festivals.

The first work of Boulez, has received international acclaim, was the orchestral piece hammer without a master (Le Marteau sans matre), performed at the festival of the International Society for Contemporary Music in Baden-Baden in the early 1950's. Among the outstanding scores for subsequent years can be called a Pli selon pli (fold on fold) and Ritual (Rituel).

Boulez initially took up conducting in order to ensure accurate interpretation of their own scores. Then he worked with the orchestra BBC Cu, conducted at the Wagner festivals at Bayreuth, from 1969 to 1972 he served with the Cleveland Orchestra.

In June 1969, two months after the four-week trial engagement at the New York Philharmonic, Boulez became its artistic director - the first Frenchman to this post. In 1977 Boulez returned to France and devoted himself entirely to the organization of the Coordinating Research Institute of Acoustics and Music (IRCAM) in Paris.
