Azevedo, ALUIZIU DE (Azevedo, Aluzio de) (1857-1913), Brazilian writer. By profession a diplomat. In his youth was influenced by romanticism, but in the novel mulatto (O mula-to, 1881) declared itself as the first in Brazil, an adherent of the French naturalism. Being romantic in the descriptions, followed by E. Zola in an objective and detailed elaboration of the theme of race relations in his home state of Maranhao.
