Biography BANVIL Theodore de
BANVIL, Thц?odore de (Banville, Thц?odore de) (1823-1891), French poet and writer. Born March 14, 1823 in Moulins. In 1842, he published his first poetry collection "Caryatid" (Les Cariatides). Concern about technical perfection of verse brings him to 'Parnassians' and he stands a desire to avoid loud and moralizing. Among his poetry books - "Stalactites" (Les Stalactites, 1846), "Acrobatic ode" (Odes funambulesques, 1857), "Exiles" (Les Exilц?s, 1867), "New acrobatic ode" (Nouvelles odes funambulesques, 1869), " Rondeli "(Rondels, 1875). Pessimism, native Banvilya with Victor Hugo and A. Musset, disappears into his mature things that attract mock gaiety and wit. A mixture of sensitivity and irony inherent in the most successful poems Banvilya, manifests itself in his theater plays. He also published stories, novels, memoirs, he worked in journalism. In 1872 appeared his "little treatise on French poetry" (Petit traitц? de poц?sie franцїaise), which emphasizes the importance of rhyme and strict forms. Banvil died in Paris on March 15, 1891. He is indebted to P. Verlaine and other Symbolists.
