Armenian parliamentary speaker: Baku knows perfectly well that Karabakh will never be part of Azerbaijan
Baku?s statements about renewal of military action in Nagorno Karabakh are nothing but a manifestation of pseudo-patriotism, Speaker of the Armenian Parliament Tigran Torosyan announced at a news conference today.
As a REGNUM correspondent reports, according to Torosyan, the Azerbaijani government, at least, at heart, does not want renewal of military action. He noted that Baku knows perfectly well that outcome of a war is not determined by numbers of planes or tanks. "When the war in Nagorno Karabakh started, they had advantages comparing to Armenia and Karabakh, both from the point of view of human and financial resources and from the point of view of weapons. Giant arms depots were passed to Azerbaijan?s hands, I even do not mention Soviet columns of tanks that under Azerbaijani flags assumed the offensive on Karabakh," the speaker noted stressing that it did not play a significant role.
The speaker believes that increased number of statements is connected with the forthcoming electoral campaign. According to the speaker, the Azerbaijani side does not want to see the conflict settled, as Baku knows it perfectly well that Baku will never be a part of Azerbaijan. Besides, at present time, the Azerbaijani authorities cannot bereave themselves of the temptation to send all oil dollars to the military budget that is less transparent in every country and explaining to the people that they live in poverty because of the unsettled conflict and in this connection the authorities have to send significant money for military purposes, noted Torosyan.
Speaking on prospects of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict settlement, Torosyan said that a pre-condition for settling the conflict will be removal or reduction of the anti-Armenian propaganda.
