Ilchenko was arrested in March on charges of public appeals to extremist activity. KGB PMR (Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic) said that Ilchenko called for an armed overthrow of the Transdniestrian authorities and armed confrontation with Russia. Ilchenko faces imprisonment for up to five years.
"We call on the authorities of the Transnistrian Moldovan Republic to immediately release Sergey Ilchenko, to return confiscated from him and his son the equipment and stop mistreatment of him and his family," said the coordinator of the European and Central Asian programs CPJ Nina Ognianova."
