Kazakh Communist Party doubts that parliamentary elections will be fair
The Communist Party of Kazakhstan casts doubts that the parliamentary elections planned for August 18 will be fair. The announcement was made by the Communist Party first secretary Serikbolsyn Abdildin at a news conference in Alma-Ata.
According to the party leader, the doubt is stipulated by the previous experience, when fraud took place. "Even if we had passed the 7-percent barrier, we would have been written only zero and tenths of a percent, this is one issue; another issue is we are not the people to throw away membership fees paid by war veterans," Abdildin said.
Speaking further on the decision to boycott the elections, he said that one of the reasons for boycotting is that candidates are nominated only by party lists and there are no single member constituencies and thus people have no direct say, believes Serikbolsyn Abdildin.
"The key question is many common people see that the people are no longer the source of power, people have no direct say, the lists are presented like a pig in a poke," he said.
Serikbolsyn Abdildin noted that if any Communist Party member still decides to vote, he would recommend voting for the opposition National Social Democratic Party.
