N. Caucasus to host command and staff exercises from today
Russia is set to conduct command and staff exercises throughout the North Caucasus from July 31 through August 9, a regional military spokesman said Tuesday.
The exercises, which will be held in the republics of North Ossetia, Ingushetia, Daghestan and Chechnya, and the Stavropol Territory, will involve Ground Forces, Air Defense Forces, the Air Force, Border Troops, and the Caspian Fleet.
"The exercises will include high-alert and operations training," said Andrei Bobrun, head of the public relations service of the North Caucasus military district. The training could include live-fire practice, he said.
Air Force spokesman Colonel Alexander Drobyshevsky said aircraft and helicopters would practice reconnaissance, lock-on and destruction of air and ground targets.
