Spanish jazz fest attracts top names
Spain`s southern city of Cartagena will play host to a raft of top names from November 2 to 17 with the 27th edition of its popular international jazz festival, organisers said Thursday.
Among star turns contracted to grace the city`s Nuevo Teatro Circo are Rufus Wainwright, Chick Corea, Bela Fleck and Dianne Reeves.
Brazilian pianist Eliane Elias will open the two-week bash with a "Portrait of Bill Evans," an homage to the late US pianist.
Among those starring on the opening Saturday, November 3, is British singer-songwriter Lloyd Cole, ex of the Commotions.
The following week will have a strong Brazilian flavour with singer Gal Costa duetting with guitarist Luiz Meira before Wainwright shows up on September 10, with Chick Corea topping the bill two days later.
French accordionist Richard Galliano will close the festival after four-time Grammy winner Reeves first shows off her vocal style known not least to cinemagoers following her acclaimed performance in George Clooney`s "Good Night, and Good Luck."
