Gazprom is interested in new projects in Venezuela
Russian gas giant Gazprom has submitted a request to Venezuela`s Energy and Oil Ministry to join the country`s three new gas projects, Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Zhukov said after the fourth session of the Russian-Venezuelan commission in Caracas.
He named the gas deposits as Gas Delta Caribe Oriental, Mariscal Sucre and a block in eastern Venezuela`s Deltana platform. Local officials promised to consider the request within 6 months` time
Zhukov also said that Gazprom was due to sign an agreement with Venezuela`s national oil and gas company PdVSA shortly to assess and certify the Ayacucho 3 block of Orinoco Oil Belt. The companies signed a memorandum of understanding in January 2005.
Gazprom is also involved in Venezuela`s Rafael Urdaneta gas project (Urumaco 1 and Urumaco 2 blocks). "The company wants to have marketing rights for the products," Zhukov said, noting that Venezuela was due to respond within 6 months. In 2006, Gazprom completed the first stage of exploration at Urumaco 1 and Urumaco 2 and went on to the second stage, including the estimation of the project`s potential reserves.
