US Ambassador to the OSCE: Ukrainian government deserves opponents
Irina Chumakova. Permanent representative of the USA to the OSCE Daniel Baer called the situation in Ukraine is terrible humanitarian crisis, noting that the Ukrainian government from time to time deserves opponents.
"What is happening today in Ukraine is a terrible humanitarian crisis," said the diplomat, speaking on the last working day of the week at the Royal Institute of British military power (RUSI).
Baer was subjected to charges of the Russian Federation in violation of the ceasefire and said that the punishment is a significant part of the implementation of pressure on the Russian Federation.
However, he said that " the Ukrainian government deserves opponents from time to time ".
Speaking about the further actions of the West, Baer noticed that it is necessary " to continue to support the contact group, to apply the punishment and other measures of isolation as long as the Minsk consensus will not be implemented."
The Ukrainian authorities began in April last year in the Donbass military operation against dissatisfied with the coup d'etat of residents of the region. According to the summary data of the UN, the victims of the conflict were about 6, 5 thousand people. The settlement of the situation in the Donbass is discussed, as well as among them, during meetings in Minsk contact group, which since September of last year already took 3 of the document governing the steps to de-escalate the conflict.
Moscow has stated many times that is not a party to domestic conflict, does not support the militia and not sending troops in the Donbass. Kiev continues to accuse Russia of "military aggression" and occasionally "finds" in the East of Ukraine and in the border areas of Russia, some Russian military units, although international observers in the process of regular inspections have never found any undeclared military activity.
