Two Russian Black Sea Fleet ships to head for Gulf of Aden
The ships Yamal and Azov of the Russian Black Sea Fleet will leave for the Gulf of Aden in the next few days.
The ships will leave for the zone adjoining the Horn of Africa, a Russian Navy Staff source told Itar-Tass on Friday.
A meeting devoted to the planned voyage of the two landing ships with marines aboard was held in Sevastopol on Thursday.
Up to 20 warships from various countries, including a squadron from the European Union, are present near the Somali coasts to fight piracy.
On December 16, the U.N. Security Council adopted Resolution 1851 to fight piracy near Somalia`s coasts. It allows carrying out air strikes against bases of pirates in Somalia`s territory with consent of the country`s government and conduct operations in its territory.
