Aftershocks continue to rattle Italian disaster region
A 5.3 magnitude tremor hit central Italy`s Abruzzo region, where 272 people died following Monday`s powerful quake, early Thursday, causing concern among rescue workers involved in the clear up operation.
Local police said there were no casualties following the latest series of aftershocks.
Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, who has already paid three visits to the badly-affected medieval town of L`Aquila, said 28,000 people had been made homeless. Most of them are now living in tents or hotels.
Although the rescue operation continues, hopes are fading that anyone will be found alive.
The bishop of L`Aquila said that funerals would be held on Friday.
