Nocturnal snoring can cause meningitis
American researchers noticed that nocturnal snoring seriously disrupts the brain, damage of the blood-brain barrier. Such an offense may then lead to the development of epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, meningitis and other severe illnesses.
Professionals California Institute in Los Angeles revealed that obstructive sleep apnea (or folk-snoring is a condition that can be fraught with many dangerous diseases of the brain, inform, Bel Marra Health. Nightly snoring is a common sleep disorder that affects about 22 million adult inhabitants of the United States.
This phenomenon is due to frequent interruptions in breathing caused by clenching and blocking the airway. Especially often this disorder affects people who are overweight and older.
During the study, researchers found that sleep apnea leads to a reduced flow of oxygen to the brain that eventually leads to damage of the blood-brain barrier. "We noticed that the result of the snoring of the blood-brain brain barrier becomes more permeable, resulting traumatic brain injury," he stated, managing research, Rajesh Kumar.
The blood-brain barrier is a protective structure that protects the brain from penetration into it of various infections, bacteria and chemical compounds. If the permeability is disturbed, it causes such unsafe diseases, such as meningitis, stroke, multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, Alzheimer's disease and other.
According to Kumar, the findings state that in patients with snoring need to not only breathe, but also to increase the impermeability of the blood-brain barrier.
