U.S. astronauts make 202nd spacewalk since first moon landing
Two astronauts from the U.S. space shuttle Endeavour carried out a spacewalk to mark the 40th anniversary of the first human landing on the Moon, NASA said on its website on Tuesday.
"Spacewalkers Dave Wolf and Tom Marshburn wrapped up a six hour, 53 minute spacewalk at 6:20 p.m. EDT [10:20 GMT] on Monday," NASA said, adding that the astronauts completed most of their planned tasks.
It is the 202nd spacewalk carried out by U.S. astronauts since members of the Apollo 11 mission, Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin stepped down from the lunar lander onto the Moon`s Sea of Tranquility on July 20, 1969.
It is also the 215th American spacewalk in history.
The Endeavour space shuttle, carrying its 7-member crew, docked with the International Space Station on July 17.
The shuttle`s mission is primarily aimed at completing the assembly of Japan`s Kibo laboratory module, and includes five spacewalks.
