The Islamic state blew up the main monument of Syria
Terrorist group "Islamic state" destroyed one of the main sights in Syria - a triumphal arch in Palmyra. Experts do not doubt that the terrorists intend to wipe out from the face of the earth the old metropolis.
The militants of the criminal group "Islamic state" continue to gradually destroy the cultural heritage of Syria. This time they blew up a triumphal arch in Palmyra, the age of which counts more than 2 thousand years. It is approved by the Director of the historical Museum and cultural heritage of Syria Maamoun Abdel-Karim, informs Reuters. According to the publication, the monument of the Roman era was the "jewel in the luxury collection of ancient buildings of the metropolis".
As noted by Abdel-Karim, terrorists systematically destroy the ancient ruins of the city included in the list of UNESCO world heritage sites. Taking into account the opinion of historians, the undermining of these buildings is blasphemy. "It seems as if the city was overtaken by the curse and every day I expect terrible news from there. If Palmyra would remain in the hands of terrorists, then it is doomed to destruction. Now the militants are destroying monuments pointless - their revenge now devoid of ideological meaning, because data destruction does not already carry religious importance," he said.
According to the Director, the witnesses saw the militants mined the arch a large amount of explosives. It was also suggested that the triumphal arch is a "extremely great loss for history... what we are witnessing now, expresses an elaborate scenario in which the metropolis Palmyra will be wiped off the face of the earth." The construction of a twenty-meter triumphal arch dates from the late 2nd century ad during the reign of Emperor Septimius Severus. It was built and the whole town was in the Roman style. On top of the arch was embossed the name of the ruler who ordered the construction.
